a little dramatic, no? the vast majority of the fighting in iraq is factional - we are dying there because we are there, and therefore targets. obviously, ending an occupation will save some of the billions it costs to station 140,000 troops in a foreign country and most of the american lives being lost there.

the "they will follow us here" argument is perhaps the silliest of all (no wonder the Prez uses it frequently). how will they follow us - in the Al Queda navy? using the Al Queda air force?

at the end of the day, defense policy will come full circle to back where it was on September 10, 2001: contain our enemies where we can, remove the removable threats, protect our borders, and be as vigilant as possible....and still take a hit every now and then, just like the rest of the world. that's as good as it gets.
