Default Britons 'prefer to get it on with Marvin'

. . .

Marvin Gaye has been declared the "lord of love" with his Motown classics Sexual Healing and Let's Get It On voted the nation's favourite soundtrack for sex.

In a revealing insight into Britain's bedroom listening habits 10,000 people were asked if they had a favourite love- making track and 51% said yes.

Gaye beat Robbie Williams, Enrique Iglesias and Eric Clapton to claim his position on top.

Ravel's Bolero and Phyllis Nelson's school disco favourite Move Closer came third and fourth while Chris De Burgh's Lady in Red squeezed in at number 10.

The survey was released by digital music channel Music Choice.

Its music and marketing director Simon Bell said: "The British public have clearly decided that Marvin Gaye is the true lord of love.

"As eight out of the 10 top songs are by male artists it would appear that men have more seductive voices.

"Or maybe their female fans are just more dominant in the bedroom - at least when it comes to control of the stereo."

The full list of positions was:

Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing:
Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On;
Ravel - Bolero;
Phyllis Nelson - Move Closer;
Robbie Williams - Angels;
Enrique Iglesias - Hero;
Paul Weller - You Do Something To Me;
Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight;
Air - All I need;
Chris De Burgh - Lady In Red.
