uconn has been threatening to shut down, block or otherwise disable peer-to-peer programs for months. this was not supposed to affect internal campus networks like hubs however. calling it a bandwidth crisis they stated as early as this past spring they'd prevent access to all off campus p2p sites in the fall and there are sophisticated programs available to IT depts that can do that. anyone wishing to access their favorite external p2p network for a few hours will have to get permission from the university, and no doubt the administration will want to know why.

so much for academic freedom.

there is nothing in the news about any file-sharing arrests at uconn at this time.
