P2P Activity Report

the riaa's going after the fastrack apps pgs, morpheus, grokster and of course kazaa, which was recently sold to an austrailian after the dutch threatened to fine it out of existence. morpheus, which purged their forums 3x before shutting them down altogether (no advance notice given or reasons why) promises a new version soon, based on an all new platform. meanwhile many members of the closed boards relocated to nu.

the company that made a new gnutella app called xolox shut down a while ago even tho there were no reports of riaa activity. interesting twist: the client was so good it's being kept alive by fans who've posted multiple hacks allowing it to prosper.

there've been rumors for a while the riaa would launch hack attacks (dos?) against some p2p systems but no one's sure about it and no one's seen anything yet.

no reports of opennap suits or hacks & nothing against winmx.

new p2p Zizhu released that allows centralized file blocking. riaa friendly client not expected to make inroads.

all things considered, things were fairly quiet last week.
