Rove has been quite successul with this trash-by-proxy routine in other elections:

the Kerry camp might take a lesson from James Carville, who ran the Clinton campaigns....Carville set up a war room, where every single attack by the opposition was countered strongly and immediately - they left no charge unanswered. Kerry is letting this stuff fester and it's gonna take it's toll.
