no matter how they spin this to their members, the press and to the public at large, this is not good news for the riaa's draconian legal plans.

what is good news for them is that even though file sharing continues to flourish, record sales are truly up. p2p file swapping and record sales obviously and demonstrably easily coexist, which is what we've been saying for five years. so the riaa should spend their resources there, improving the core business - which is selling records, and improving their terrible reputation - not scaring customers who support them into bad faith and debilitating financial settlements - actions which go nowhere in helping their members or the artists they control.
