I actually don't think a civil war will happen for the same reason used in the book: there is no clear geographic separation between the two factions. But the divisions among the people are clear, and nobody is ready to back down. We've seen it here in PA, people abusing logic and misremembering history to justify their bigotry against their fellow citizens; we're all guilty of it. It's madness to treat one's neighbors as foreign enemies, even if it's just a war of words, but it's happening more and more. It makes no sense for liberals and conservatives not to work together, but the spirit of comprise has died with the old Republicans and Democrats who shared common goals and values and only argued matters of policy and execution instead of matters of morality and idealism. Hopefully things won't get any worse before the current batch of bull-headed pundits dies out over the next quarter century.
