Cool Intellectual Property Rights

A very interesting article @ Slyck.com. The edited quote here pretty much sums it up!

Intellectual Property Rights
Tuesday February 12, 2002

Hilary Rosen, president of the RIAA and Jack Valenti, president of the MPAA, will be testifying today on Capitol Hill. The duo will address the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the prolific expansion of international digital piracy.

The RIAA and MPAA will meet, talk, shake some hands, make a few deals, then go home. People will be at their computers, downloading a few MP3's, without regard for international copyright laws. This saga seems like a never ending story of testimony, lawsuits and litigation - yet since the days of Napster, none of the pressing digital rights issues have been satisfactorily resolved. Instead, many individuals are developing next generation P2P networking software, working hard to defeat the RIAA and MPAA. Conversely, these industries have their own staff working diligently to crush piracy. Like the western front of WWI, this is a back and forth game where neither side has a clear advantage. Periods of time go by where it seems the copyright holders are winning, yet in a blink of an eye, the tide turns in favor of piracy. Although it seems that P2P networking currently has the upper hand, only time will tell who will ultimately win. In the end, does it really matter?
