interesting and valid points made in this article...

the "war on terror" is a pretty vague concept, imo...it has become a blank check for a variety of governmental excesses, including an unprecedented lack of fiscal restraint (the deficit), questionable foreign policy decisions (the invasion of Iraq), and modification of constitutional protections (the Patriot Act).

this is not to say that any or all of the above may not be warranted under certain circumstances or that war on terror is not a reasonable effort. but when the government conducts itself thusly in this vaguely defined "war", a "war" with no definable end or exit strategy or measure of accomplishment, then the people should be prepared to continuously question the government's tactics, goals, and policies used to perpetuate said "war".

my biggest fear is that the war on terror becomes like the war on drugs - an institutionalized, self-perpetuating component of government, used to justify dubious policies and political agendas.
