But, the data gets it's address from their servers, that's your "buddy list", everything you type goes through your ISP, ie your server. It just doesn't need to go to the ICQ or Aimster servers or stop there and find out where it's going., it's already got an address on it so your server sends it either to the address or in that general direction. That was Napsters downfall you had to go to their servers for information everytime you sent out a request/search/hotlist/browse. There's all kinds of file transfer programs, the problem is getting the other address to communicate.
