Yeah, him and Les Claypool are a couple of the best there are. But then they're also pretty showy. I have more respect for bassists that compliment the other instruments in the band so well you almost don't notice them. Stu Hamm from Joe Satriani's band would be a good example, though he doesn't slap his bass. And Justin Chancellor along with Danny Carey of Tool form one of the tightest rhythm sections I've heard in any band.
Slap bass is best suited for funk music, and anywhere else it's kinda gimicky, in my opinion.
