No leader of recent times, no politician of any real power (certainly in the UK and US) ever got to the top by being principled and honest. We live under a political system that awards office to the most unscupulous, backstabbing, double-dealing businessmen and soldiers - yet we act surprised when that abject lack of principle is thrust upon public policy.
The real tragedy here, is that we're prepared to accept a faux-honest polititian - that we're prepared to turn a blind eye to Kerry's naughty past and shortcomings, simply becasue the criminal alternative, Bush, is so incredibly bad.
