But this is one of those: "A rose is a rose, but this message concerns a peach" deals. Also, I wonder if Foley is aware that in prison, torturing child molesters is considered to be perfectly ok, not only by the other inmates but most of the guards. Just curious since Foley just voted that torture is legal as long as Bush says it is necessary. |

Still at it you sorry liberliars; Clinton was impeached for perjury. It's truly pathetic how your warped mentality compels you to lie about such a well known fact.
And the dumbocrats will never learn; this is just another scheme to distract media attention from the war in Iraq. :dis: |
I wonder how long it took Foley to change out and dispose of all his hard drives?
Or, more likely dispose of the whole systems, since i doubt he even knows what a hard drive looks like. Like O.J.'s big knife, never to be seen again. If he had been a Democrat, do you think the justice dept would be giving him all this free time to get that done in? |
boy, the GOP leadership is just not handling this well at all - the Foley Five: Congressmen Denny Hastert, John Boehner, Tom Reynolds, John Shimkus and Rodney Alexander...tripping all over each other, contradicting stories, all kinds of excuses (i didn't know, i told him, i thought somebody eise was handling it, nobody told me, the Democrats are behind this etc etc).
a lot of people can't be bothered to keep the Abramoff case straight or don't really wanna know what a fiasco iraq is or how we got suckered into it..but everybody gets this Foley thing. there's no spinning your way out of covering for a sexual predator. most of these guys are gonna have to fall on their swords to salvage any hope at all for the GOP for the foreseeable future...otherwise, they're just radioactive and so is anyone who gets near them. meanwhile, over in the Senate, Republican Majority Leader Bill Frist surrenders to the Taliban: Quote:

Congressman Mel Reynolds (D-Ill), who was convicted of corruption and of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old campaign worker (and sentenced to seven years in prison), was pardoned in 2001 by outgoing President Bill Clinton. oh and Good riddance, Mark Foley--- |
Well, with a name like Studds....
It's looking very much like the press is selectively omitting details in their reporting on Foley; it seems the really dirty messages only went to adults but reporters are inferring it went to minors. At any rate there was nothing physical going on and the media and democrats are looking ridiculous for sqealing like it's bloody murder. |

While on a human level it's certainly sad and pathetic that Foley seems content to get his kicks in remote conversation with a young man who is obviously bored out of his mind by it, I find the slimier behaviour to be that of the page--a sick little fucker (sorry, a cast fetish is creepy) willing to string the old drooler along just enough to keep him interested--probably holding out to see if there might be a cash offer for a moustache ride at some point--while, it sounds like, he's simultaneously messaging three other more interesting people and playing a video game with someone in Tokyo. Fitting the mold, he'll surely end up being a politician himself. |

Longer Republican Cover-up
Foley Concerns Raised in 2000 House Speaker Hastert has suggested that e-mail awareness surfaced only last fall Jonathan Weisman A Republican congressman knew of disgraced former Rep. Mark Foley's inappropriate Internet exchanges as far back as 2000 and personally confronted Foley about his communications, according to an aide to the congressman. Korenna Cline, a spokeswoman for Rep. Jim Kolbe, R-Ariz., confirmed Sunday that a former page showed the congressman Internet messages that had made the youth feel uncomfortable with the direction Foley, R-Fla., was taking their e-mail relationship. The revelation pushes back by at least five years the date when a member of Congress has acknowledged learning of Foley's questionable behavior. A timeline issued by House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., suggested the first lawmakers to know -- Rep. John Shimkus. R-Ill., the chairman of the House Page Board, and Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La. -- became aware of "over-friendly" e-mails only last fall. The new information also expands the universe of players in the drama beyond members either in leadership or on the page board. A new poll by Newsweek found that more than half of Americans believe Hastert was aware of Foley's Internet communications with underage pages and tried to cover up Foley's actions. |
Over and over again those that claim to be the holder of America's morals and virtues have been exposed as hypocrites and frauds. Republican Bill Bennett was outraged on America's moral decay while dropping $100,000 a night at various casinos. Newt Gingrich was outraged at President Clinton for the Lewinsky scandal while at the same time having an extramarital affair with a committee member. Republicans were outraged that President Clinton's Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy accepted gifts for sports tickets and trips to games. Espy resigned. Now you have members of Congress and White House staffers taking all kinds of gifts including sporting events and trips. Susan Ralston a former Jack Abramoff assistant quit her White House job as an aide to Karl Rove after it was disclosed she received tickets to sporting events and concerts from Abramoff. But the mother of them all is House Speaker Dennis Hastert and the Republican Congress covering up a potential sex offender Congressman Mark Foley's perverted instant messages and e-mails to under aged male pages. Americans send their children to Washington to be pages to learn about government with the understanding that they will be protected. The ruling party is in charge of the pages. When so-called "overly-friendly" messages appeared from Foley to an under age page it was the responsibility of Republican Rep. John Shimkus who is head of the House Page Board. Did he take up the sick Foley e-mails with the full page board? No instead he kept it secret from the board and told Hastert and his Republican cohorts Rep. Tom Reynolds and House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. These types of messages should have raised enough red flags to bring it to the full page board but instead Rep. Shimkus failed the pages and the parents that send their children to Washington under his care. He was more concerned about a Republican sexual predator than the children of which it is his job to protect. He gave Foley a slap on the wrist and Foley continued his lewd behavior. Not long after Foley donated a $100,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee; that is outrageous if not criminal! Hastert, Shimkus and Boehner knew Foley was sending sexual suggestive electronic messages to young male pages and did nothing. Why? Because Foley bought them off for $100,000. An independent council should look into crimes that have been committed, nobody can trust Congress to look into itself, the Republican leadership is not trustworthy; they are corrupt and slime balls. Hastert, Shimkus and Boehner and their staff should testify under oath what they knew about Foley and when they knew it. Anything less can't be trusted...
The Republican Party always claims the high moral ground. Letting a sexual predator get off with a warning is beyond reason. The Republican Congress is a sleazy criminal predator Congress more concerned with their own power and fortune than the children that they are responsible to protect. Where is the moral conservatives' outrage? All those pro-family, pro-life people are very quiet. The less they say, the more they sound like hypocrites... |
Quote:
Quote:

Hypocrisy is the bedrock of all politics. Everyone knows it, so I can only guess why you're all acting so surprised that these Republicans are behaving like politicans. The party doesn't claim the higher ground so much as it panders to it and Democrats aren't the only people who can tell the differnce. But do they really believe that by saying, "They're just as bad as we are," that they can attract more voters? I don't see the point in any of this. Foley resigned and admited himself to an alcohol rehab center. Voting Democrat will not prevent his kind from winning public office, not by any stretch of the imagination. This controversy isn't a censure on a particular political party, just on one particular man. But a lot of people have this 'blame everyone' attitude that's ruining the concept of personal accountability.
|
Quote:
|
I doubt it. I haven't heard anything about Foley in the news for more than a week. Had minors actually been assaulted by congressmen we'd see a lot more coverage than we are seeing, but this story just isn't sensational enough for it to make the local news. If I thought the public was actually indicting GOP leaders I'd be singing a different tune, but all the finger pointing is being done by beltway insiders and they're the ones with the blame everyone attitude I refered to before.

Where Is Wamp On Foley? posted October 10, 2006 Where is Mr. Wamp, and why won't he either publicly state he supports Speaker Hastert and the GOP leadership, or state they all must go for covering, ducking and supporting Foley for re-election in 1994, rather than protecting children from Foley's improper sexual advances. Now, we learn as far back as 2000, some of the Republican leadership were aware of this Foley situation. They put their own political interests ahead of protecting the safety of teenage pages. Where do you stand, Mr. Wamp? Why are you so silent? And don't tell us "Washington speak" about wanting a full investigation to find out the facts. Either you support the leadership or you don't. Which is it? Paul Gearinger Chattanooga |
I haven't met anyone who's "outraged", but the people I associate with are intelligent enough to know the difference between email and sex and also between 18-year old "teenagers" and children.
It's funny how little "outrage" is directed at Foley, but instead is directed against a host of republican politicians; it's almost as if the situation was being used as a political weapon. :PO: Congrats to Jack for finding a letter on the internet supposedly from a person in Chattanooga. :AP: How does he do it? |
''Throw the bums out!''
War, Sex Scandal Sinking GOP in Polls Wed Oct 11, 2006 8:52 AM ET John Whitesides, Political Correspondent WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush and Republicans are sinking under the weight of the Iraq war and the Capitol Hill sex scandal, according to a flurry of polls, endangering their control of Congress in the November 7 elections. Democrats hold a growing advantage heading into the final four weeks of the campaign, with analysts moving more Republican-held seats into the high-risk category and improving the odds of Democrats seizing control of at least the House of Representatives. The polls, all taken after the sex scandal surfaced, show Democratic candidates with huge leads over Republicans amid broad public unhappiness about the Iraq war, Bush's leadership and the Republican-led Congress. "These polls seem to suggest the public has decided to just 'throw the bums out,'" said Karlyn Bowman, a public opinion analyst at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. "These are huge, huge, numbers and they are very bad for Republicans," she said. "There is not a shred of good news in these polls for Republicans." http://today.reuters.com/news/articl...domesticNews-3 |

"Fire in the Hole"
RNC Accepts Money From Army Porn Movie Distributor Maddy Sauer Reports: Despite running an attack ad accusing a Democratic senatorial candidate of accepting money from "porn movie producers," the Republican National Committee itself has accepted several donations over the past few years from the president of a large pornographic movie distribution company. Marina Pacific Distributors calls itself "the leader in adult video distribution." Included in the movies for sale on their Web site are videos made by "Active Duty Productions." Active Duty, as their name suggests, has cast active duty soldiers in some of their films but not without serious consequences for the soldiers. Three Fort Bragg soldiers were found guilty and sentenced to prison in separate courts-martial earlier this year for appearing in pornographic videos made by Active Duty. The charges included sodomy and conduct detrimental to the Army. Four other soldiers accused of appearing in Active Duty videos were also punished outside of the military court system. Active Duty's films, however, continue to be sold by large pornographic video distributors, including Marina Pacific. The president of Marina Pacific, Nicholas Boyias, has personally contributed to the Republican party several times over the last few years, six times to the Republican National Committee. The donations range from $200 to $500 and total around $2,000, according to a search of federal election records. The RNC would not comment on the donations from Boyias or from the porn industry in general. A Marina Pacific spokesman said Boyias is a moderate Republican who supports candidates and causes on both sides of the aisle, though no contributions to Democrats were found in a search of federal election records. The company continues to sell Active Duty's films, which include "Fire in the Hole," "Platoon Party" and "Thrill Sergeant." Back at Fort Bragg, a spokesman for the 82nd Airborne said it's distressing to know that Active Duty's videos are still being sold. "It's very frustrating for the leaders of the 82nd Airborne to know that people like this are out in the public who prey on our troops," said Major Thomas Earnhardt. When asked about the soldiers who were sent to prison for appearing in the films, a spokesman for Marina Pacific said, "They made a choice, and they were of legal age." http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/...cepts_mon.html |
