Hey everyone! I'm very familiar with the WASTE program. I've got a mesh running on my college campus. I'm familiar with the power of having 6 terabytes of content available to me at any moment, but I'm curious to see how well this "nullnet" functions. WASTE_PUBLIC_KEY 20 1024 td4guy AF6640E1BBA7185E5D3FE4CCEDDB015E4A5BF4A4F7BAA5D12E0D9C23815F 613462A6BA63E0D22099C46688064300A96AB4B819158F1EDA9AFBFDDBFF 430607C80293CCD27BFBE5BDD8A78C4D14E77A803087C1D7E7A4E0E9A74B 05401F56885D3EF14E1A6CF326342E87B09A4FACE15EC2A05E8CB35334FF 574C8E4E182B98910003010001 WASTE_PUBLIC_KEY_END WASTE v1.4 alpha 3 I'm behind a college firewall, so I'm not even going to bother to listen on port 11500 because all incoming connections are blocked. (Don't worry...I won't let my college mesh merge with this one... This campus uses v1.5, so that's impossible anyway...) Please let me know what IP address(es) posesses my public key so that I may connect to it. /can't wait to get WASTEd again P.S. Like the avatar? Can someone with Photoshop skills make a better (i.e. less blurry) one? P.P.S. Do most nodes on this "nullnet" auto-accept broadcasted public keys? P.P.P.S. A Linux client was just released (v1.5b3) and a Mac client is said to be coming soon. Perhaps this is another reason to switch to v1.5... P.P.P.P.S. Sorry for all the P.S.'s... |
you've been added td4guy and welcome to the forums.
as a sophisticated uni level waste power user you'll find zer©share a sleepy little part of the p2p community indeed. with no copyrighted material available (that public searches will find anyway), obsessive content miners stay an average two hours and are never heard from again, but that's fine. the mesh accomplishes two things: it publicizes waste in a positive way and it allows noobs their first experience with the program in a neutral atmosphere, with zer©chance of getting flushed by copyright mercenaries, either with writs or with trojans, neither of which are unimportant things. regardless of open content or the lack thereof all of waste’s other functions will be familiar such as drag and drop file-sharing and the integrated social features like IM and user-run chatrooms, which it doesn’t hurt to remind people are decentralized and encrypted. for those reasons alone i’m often here 24/7 and find it a much more secure environment than icq, aim, msn and yahoo etc. that waste is capable of more than just social functions, that it’s a rip-snorting instant-search p2p app (albeit one w/out multi-sourcing or swarming) is icing on this cake, but since i happily discovered this tiny, easy-to-use program is a better communication tool than all the corrupted commercial apps out there it's become indispensable. it's first to launch, last to close. - js. |

i contacted my superiors on university network, and they told me that outgoing ports are unrestricted, while incoming connections are restricted to 50000-50010. so i tested again with one of the ports as listening port, but still there's no connection available. this is a total mystery to me, as i see that packets are being send into the net, and responds are coming in when trying to connect. maybe i should sniff the network throughput...

Connection difficulties
Having some trouble connecting..
Installed skype, but that won't connect (to the test call Echo123) either. I'm running Version 1.4 of waste; and I've entered a tonne of the IP's and public keys from this board..But I think the difficulty is something to do with my connection. Just connected to a new broadband provider this week and it way be something to do with connecting with a NAT router. I've set up port forwarding, which I've gotten lots of contradictory advice about (namely that the stuff on port forwarding.com is rubbish). I'm using a ZyXEL router, and have tried a)no forwarding of 1115 at all b) forwarding it to my overall ip (from whatsmyip.com b) forwarding to the ip of my router (got from winipcfg), and c) forwarding to the ip of my network card (again from winipcfg). With c) + my ip from whatsmyip.com I've been able to connect to myself in waste; but I'm not sure whether that means its working and some other setting is wrong, or its just working locally and can't get through the router.. I've spelt Zer0share correctly with no spaces (cut and paste it to be sure). Any ideas ? |
You should forward port 11150 to the IP of your network card. Skype doesn't work? Weird. Message me on AIM, Yahoo, or MSN...my screenname is td4guy (or td4guy@hotmail.com for MSN). I'll try and help you.

hi matrix and welcome to the forums,
this mesh only runs on pre v1.5 clients, as mentioned in the posts above. you can get the original v1 here. it sets up the same. run it and post the keys and i or someone here will add you. as for a seed ip drakonix was good enough to post one of his, and that's as good as any. it's right above your post. i've been in and out the last few days with a dynamic ip so mine won't be much help atm. any problems holler. - js. |

Howdy All!
I'm a p2p newbie who just managed to read the first 15 pages of this enormous zer0share thread before realising that most of it occurred long in the past... I managed to add about 60 public keys and a dozen IP addresses to my freshly installed WASTE client on the way... Is zer0share still going? Worth experimenting with? I'm running waste1.4c, triple checked (for spaces in) the network name, have turned on port forwarding for 11150 on my router... nothing happening... are all of those early IPs now defunct? Or do I have to wait for one of them to add my public key? I guess what I was really looking for was the community aspect of zer0share, are there other places where one can start searching for meshes to join? Cheers, (the apparently rather aptly named) doofus. hello there doofus. you dropped in on a light wknd but your key's been added making your connection possible which should answer some questions. like any group organised more or less from the bottom up the social aspects of the community and the community itself will be basically what the users make it. today it's like one of those dorm suites with a half dozen regulars hanging out all the time, while others come and go on a whim. tomorrow, who knows? welcome to the project.
