Alternative Music Stream

Alternative fans here's a high bandwidth stream (16kBs) I've been enjoying lately. To load into Winamp just copy the url (don't click it), then activate Winamp and hit Ctrl L to open the address window and paste it in (then do "Bookmarks | Add current..." to save it). Every single one of these 128k MP3s can be captured and labeled as separate MP3s onto your HD with Streamripper at the rate of about 350/day. Wow!

I saw your post just before I hit the hay, downloaded the Plug-in and started "Ripping" I left the speakers up just loud enough to hear over the power supply fan. The first song that played was "Portishead - Sour Times". Off to a good start I thought. When I got up I had collected 103 tracks ranging from a few late 80's gems through the whole 90's and a couple classics thrown in to boot (Beatles, Stones, Hendrix). For some reason there were 23 tracks that failed to complete... Not sure about those.
Thanks for the tip Jack :tu:

I always wondered how I could do that - saving music from shoutcast radios. Thanks for the link:tu: . Monkey Radio? Sometimes I listen to it and I think like it. The other I like is Groove Salad and Secret Agent. I  at sleepbot.
I see you use ripper 1.0? Is that better then the one available on download site?

i love the somafm streams too. they're on at all the time at my place. i'm now using v1.2.4 (that's just an old screen shot from jons' site).

With a name like "Love Buzz alternative, college, indie, unsigned, and other buzz words"
I just had to like it :tu:

It seems winamp 2.78 and 3.0 have separate server lists - I never could find secret agent on the former.

Soma Fm is among my favorites - both (Groove Salad, but there is also Soma FM - House Party - Garage House)

I'm just listening to Thievery Corporation on the Monkey.

anybody know of a resource where one could get a directory of all the streaming genres and their respective sites?

knife,

you can take my WINAMP.bm file, unzip it, then open it and copy and paste all of my favorites into your file (located in your winamp folder). just delete the ones you don't want after you've heard them. there's about 2 doz high-speed stream links in there now. if you don't yet have any winamp favorites then just drag and drop my file right into your winamp folder - and start listening! but don't do it if you've got some you like already in there - it'll overwrite them all. :)

"Wow" indeed! Thanks for the Streamripper info. It's a very powerful little toy.

I just don't know how to spend my time anymore, this takes all the effort out of finding good tunes ;)

After checking out a bunch of different stations, I really like Radiostorm. Especially their Alternative Rock station! Most other stations have too much buffering for my connection in Australia, but this one has a 128kbps stream on a FAST server, and plays some awesome tunes.

Other Radiostorm stations include:
80s
Classic Rock
Hip-Hop R&B
Pop Top 40
Hardrock
AP News Radio

Thanks again for the info Jack! I freakin' love this thing :AP:

and also from santa cruz (what exactly's in the haze?) is the left of center freakradio, with a mid-bit 64k winamp stream. not for everyone and not on 24/7. http://audio.str3am.com:5110/
