Re-coded MP3's

In a recent mailing Tankgirl mentioned the doctoring of MP3's to gain some trading credibility, making 320k encodes from 128 or 160's.

Sad to say it seems like I too have been a victim of such a trick, in collecting Acoustic Alchemy, Ive done some considerable research into my collection, and that of a few others, all of us have been duped it seems, comparing the 160k encodes with the320k encodes of the same tracks from the Aart album has virtually proved that this false re-coding is going on.

I released some encoded tracks at 160k with specially altered ID3 tags, and specially worded track info, a week later I downloaded a new set of tracks only this time encoded at 320k, checked the ID3's and sure enough, apart from the fact that the originals were done with Lame 3.89, and the copies with an old BLADE encoder, the ID3 info was identical.

I'm not going to mention names, as it could be the person has also been duped, but as TG said, funny how suddenly a complete set of tracks appear at a high bit rate, that have never appeared before in months of searching...

Heres a picture of the spectrum of the original 160 encode..

then a picture of the 320k version received back..
