Two Dimensional Political Spectrum Quiz

1 Attachment(s)
If you're like me you understand how inadequate the Left-Right political spectrum is, and you've seen how the political parties in America are excluding more and more citizens with their extremism. This bulletin board was originally formed to join P2P enthusiasts together, and despite this one commonality we're all over the place when it comes to politics and it is way too easy to stereotype each member as either a rightie or a leftie in order to ignore or dismiss their reasoning. Some of us are more guilty than others on that score.

The political spectrum is not a straight line. For example a man might be considered a moderate if he supports the death penalty as well as abortion rights while an other man might also be considered a moderate if he opposes the death penalty and abortion rights. Ideally the political spectrum would actually be defined in n-dimensional space, but it's easier just to define it using two broadly-defined dimensions: economic liberty and personal liberty.

That's basically what this test does, and not surprisingly, most people fit somewhere between the four extremes. Here's where I fall on the chart:

Take the quiz and see how you compare. Post your results. Read this article to see how the rest of the country scored (six years ago).

Personal Issues-

Government should not censor speech, press, media or Internet
Military service should be voluntary. There should be no draft
There should be no laws regarding sex for consenting adults
Repeal laws prohibiting adult possession and use of drugs
There should be no National ID card

Economic Issues-

End "corporate welfare." No government handouts to business
End government barriers to international free trade
Let people control their own retirement; privatize Social Security
Replace government welfare with private charity
Cut taxes and government spending by 50% or more

More of that stupid "corporate welfare" bullshit. I've never seen any line in any government budget handing out money to a corporation. But a lie repeated often enough...

Are there really people too dumb to know their own political views?

And I thought I was cynical. Damn albed. hehe.
There are alot of these types of quizes out there. This one was very basic. Not enough questions to form a really good idea of where ones political compass might point.

There is another one you could try. I wouldn't put myself as far left as this chart point out, but oh well. For the sake of some fun. :)

Never seen a TIF district where all the money goes to support tax free zone for a corporate headquarters? Must be nice, can I move to where you are?

handing out money is not the only form of welfare for corporations or people. but if you're looking for actual straightforward giveaways, you can look at $15 billion in direct airline industry subsidies in the last five years, for one. but since corporate welfare takes a lot of forms, it's also helpful to look at things like the mining law of 1872, which lets the mining industry continue to extract publicly owned resources and pay a fraction of market-rate royalties, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements, or CRADAs, in which government scientists help private companies develop technologies, agricultural subsidies, import tariffs which tilt a free market playing field towards US Corporations etc etc. etc.

you're just not looking in the right places. more of that stupid corporate welfare bullshit for your edification, from today's NYT:

Quote:

WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 — The United States offers some of the most lucrative incentives in the world to companies that drill for oil in publicly owned coastal waters, but a newly released study suggests that the government is getting very little for its money.

The study, which the Interior Department refused to release for more than a year, estimates that current inducements could allow drilling companies in the Gulf of Mexico to escape tens of billions of dollars in royalties that they would otherwise pay the government for oil and gas produced in areas that belong to American taxpayers.

"Not taking" money from corporations isn't "giving" it to them potsie. Reconnect with reality someday and you'll understand simple concepts like this.

ah, i see the problem - you grasp simple transactions like "giving them money", but the slightly more complex "giving them billions of dollars in publicly-owned resources" or "giving them below-market royalty rates for extraction of taxpayer-owned rersources" eludes you.

but if we use your standard, free health care or free food to the poor would not be welfare either. sounds like you've got kind of a closet-liberal thing going:BL:

multi 22-12-06 03:13 PM

nah..he's just got a hard on for corporate profits

really... you can't be fucking serious

these assholes should be taxed at maximum rates with no concessions ever ffs even then it wouldn't stop them killing every small buisiness on the planet sometime in the next 20 years if they could, why they should get help from our governments to do this is beyond me.

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/198202/diamond
read and be amazed at how our governments let corporations psychologically manipulate the public and happily let it go on for many years
