Having your own web server

This might interest some people. Freeware.

Cintel Orion Web Server is for you if you want to host your own Website but you can't find an ISP that doesn't bog you down with banner adverts or maximum file size limitations, or you're working on your website and need to test it quickly, you need Cintel Orion. Orion is Cintel's first Web Server product and is part of the CENSE server package. Running your own web server has many benefits such as no space limitations, and the advantage that your files don't have to be uploaded, as they're shared directly from your hard drive.

I'm biased.

http://httpd.apache.org/

"Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April of 1996. The October 2001 Netcraft Web Server Survey found that 56% of the web sites on the Internet are using Apache, thus making it more widely used than all other web servers combined."

And yes - it can run on windows.

Yes, definitely Apache...

...or, if you only need the simplest of web servers, AnalogX Simple Server: WWW.

I actually ran AnalogX's server for a while - if you need nothing but a simple page online - it's perfect.

As for Lowdown's comments about Apache - yes there are a few versions, but that's because the beta's are online as well as the builds for almost every OS under the sun.

If you would like some help deciding which one you need, just ask.
:)
