Full albums with AlbumWrap

Lately my interest has switched from single tracks to downloading full albums.

I checked out the Album Downloader 1.0 for AudioGalaxy. It looks useful, but from what I can see it gets the mp3s from different sources, and then sorts them into a folder so you eventually have the full album.

The downside is that you end up with mp3s that have been ripped by different programs, at different volumes etc, even if they are the same bitrate. Still, it's useful to have it all sorted automatically.

Lately I've been downloading 'Albumwrap' albums, and I've been so pleased with the results that some shameless promotion seems appropriate ;)

They are similar to mp3s that have been zipped, but the Albumwrap application allows you to still provide embedded information such as bit rate and album length in searches and downloads. I've found that the mp3s are often ripped by IRC encoding groups (KSI, EGO, RNS etc) and since they're all ripped together, they don't need to be normalised.

Try a search of any p2p prog, search for: albw or albumwrap. There are many full albums being shared in this way. The albumwrap extractor is freeware: http://www.infamus.com/albumwrap/extractor.html

The wrapper is crackable shareware.

I used Albumwrapper several times... problem is all content info is in ID3v2. I downloaded file with 'ALBW' in name, but tag was removed, I had to cut large file with hex editor by looking at MP3 header. then I realised it was composite album, contents are from different sources. Also it was shared as 192kbps, which is first track's rate.

I guess because ALBW file is still playable on WinAmp without extraction, people edit tags and damaging ALBW info.

edit: I just searched 'ALBW' on MX, well ALBW scene has been changed a lot.

if u have to normalise the tracks, use mp3gain

Do you keep those fullalbum mp3's or split them up? Is there a program that can do that very easily?

Thanx for the link... Most of the Full Album mp3's I have were just that (1 long mp3) but about 3 of them were wraps...

what's program has the most albumwrap stuff on it that you've seen?

i gave it a whirl on audiogalaxy and did grab one album i LOVE and never thought of searching for. but other then that it was fairly sparse and common pickings (linkin park, pink floyd, etc).

BuzzB2K 02-04-02 11:49 PM

I found most on WinMX myself. Although I have gotten about a dozen with eDonkey...

Opennap has lots. Lately I've had some incomplete & corrupt ones, so I'm not as enthusiatic as I was...still getting some good stuff tho.

Thanks to schmooky for mp3gain, it's neat ;)

dead_frog - These are single tracks in an archive; It starts as one file but when extracted with the albumwrap extractor they are single tracks so they don't need to be split.

i got one on audiogalaxy that was highly encoded and great; and one that was encoded at 96kbs; and one that was corrupt.

so... hehe; 1 in 3 ain't bad i guess.

napho 03-04-02 04:32 PM

I got over 3000 results on WinMX. And specific searches are good too.

Those 96k songs could well be mp3PRO encoded. Check out this discussion p2p.napsterites.net starting with the third post by theflaco.

I have had the best luck with eDonkey (Quality wise). All the albums I downloaded in Ace or RaR format were 192kbs or VBR.

In addition to the groups Fantom mentioned (KSI, EGO, RNS) I have also seen albums by Spikehammer, OSC, Shady_Guy, 88MPH. Linux1999, mft57, WLM, Sooper...

If you search using those names as well as ALBW you should have pretty good luck. :tu:

btw - I got 1 off AG (Eagles - Both Greatest Hits Albums). One 84MB 90min mp3 @ 128kbs - I guess if you have 90min of time to fill it's OK :PO:

I found by far the most using Audiognome...over 100 results. I find though that the majority are from one user so results could vary depending on the time of the day. with iMesh I found about 5 and with Blubster just one.

edit: this was with searching for 'Albumwrap' I had more results when I searched for 'albw'...still trying to get one to actually download :/

edit edit: BINGO...got two going on blubster, see how his goes :/ thanks for the info fantom
