Guilty Pleasures

Y'know...those songs that you secretly like but wouldn't dare admit to anyone cos you might get laughed at or get stuff thrown at you (or perhaps even get beaten severely about the face and neck)...

I'm finding myself listening to a lot of Eighties pop music lately and it just goes to show that there's a thin line btw love and hate....Maybe I'm regressing back to childhood (or maybe I'm still a child) but somedays you just want to hear Nik 'fucking jump-suited wanker' Kershaw's "I wont let the sun go down on me" or Peter Cetera's "The glory of love" (ver big cheese)....I think I've said enuff right now...what about U?

on the 80's theme you can't beat a bit of

Cutting Crew - I Just Died in Your Arms (Tonight)

or

It Bites - Calling All The Heroes

probably the song that i love and people laugh at would be

S Club 7 - S Club Party

Laugh all you want fuckers...it's the one of the finest purest pop singles released in years..and if you can't see that then you don't understand what is 'pop'

Recent pop tunes... "I want it that way" by the Backstreet Boys is classic as is "Shape of my heart".....thats right ...BACKSTREET BOYS!...Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a bottle" is fantastic too.....S Club 7 are not perfect pop...they make radio jingles masquerading as pop songs...

right and what is a radio jingle? a short catchy tune designed for one purpose...keeping you listening. Its ultimately hollow, vapid and trite but you don't think of those things until after its over...because while it's playing you are singing along...thats pop music

i suppose you are going to tell me that pete waterman isn't a pop genius next?

you better think very carefully before you diss pete....it may get ugly

JackUzi 26-04-02 08:03 AM

Maybe we should turn this thread into Pete Waterman:Search and destroy....I like Mel and kim's "Repspectable"...tay-tay-tay-tay...hell, even Jason Donovan's "Too many broken hearts" is damn catchy...

But the buck stops at RICK FUCKING ASTLEY which makes Pete Waterman worse than Himmler*...

*I'm exaggerating a little bit here but if you've heard Rick Astley you'll know what I'm on about

Karen Carpenter had a great voice! Too bad most of their songs were such schlock. But I love Rainy Days and Mondays!

jim steinman

ps: songwriter/producer for both meatloaf albums plus such eighties and nineties 10 minute long-bloat-cheez-light fm classics as "total eclipse of the heart" celine dion's "it's all coming back to me" air supply's "making love out of nothing at all" and (DOH!) sisters of mercy "more".

he's been writing the same fucking overproduced 7 minute song for 25 years and running and i still love it.

/me wanders away in guilt and shame
