Can you come up with a reason why Govm't workers are ...
allowed to vote?
All they do is vote their paycheck. U know, up taxes so they can get a raise. Seems a conflict of interest to me. I wonder what would happen if all gov peeps went on strike for a year or two? Like, what do they do anyway? Not much that I can see. I'm talking all city, state, fed, school & exclusive gov contractors. Like, what do they do anyway? Shoot our kids in the eye? Give reasons why they can't put the fire out? Attempt to explain why students can't learn like they used to? Gov workers just can't get the job done. Don't let them vote us (the real producers) into poverty. GET MEAN |
This is irrational. If they went on strike for an extended period of time, you'd have garbage piled up to heaven. Causing health hazards that wouldn't be handled because the health department workers aren't working. Your sewage would back up into your house. Your children wouldn't be educated. All the public health care facilities wouldn't be able to provide for needy people.
And I doubt if I even scratched the surface on reasons. It's just a stupid thought to believe they vote only to benefit themselves. You posted this at another forum and I didn't answer because it was so asinine. But by posting it again here makes you seem foolishly serious. |
Dear ,dear me
Don't be like that RoBoBoy.
Nic's off to Vegas. When he gets Lucky, we'll all get a share. He's like that you know. It's the socialist in him. |

On the planet where most of the rest of us live, there's this pesky little document called the constitution. Since you're clearly unfamiliar with this exotic artifact, you might want to read and ponder the significance of its 15th amendment, as a sort of get-to-know-us exercise. Of course this is not to say it solves all our problems either. For instance most people believe that their votes actually matter, in spite of the fact that losers of the popular vote are sometimes put in office. BTW, he almost had me fooled too RoBoBoy, but great, subtle, intellectual comedy writers like nic always give you a little key line, like: Quote:

Hijack attempt, sorry guys
Dawn, just curious: do you just lurk in Political Asylum and post only once in a while or do you only read this forum once in a while?

I'm not gonna pick on u Dawn but if U went on strike either you would get what U wanted or U would be replaced.
Now... about sewers and roads. Private Companies do most of the work anyway. They do ALL of the new construction. I'd think if they built it they could maintain it. When you think about what our govmnt is good at, it isn't much other than making and collecting fees/taxes. Why not just eliminate the middleman and wack most or our silly bureaucracy. It would be cheaper to keep them on the payroll (dole) but not let them go to work and spend even more on their "needs". It's a sad, sad thing what our government has evolved into. |

Plus the cost to maintain them ... think :dunno: for a min |
It's not just government or gov't workers that are inefficient or have a vested voting interest. People who inherit lots of money vote Republican because they don't want to pay much in taxes on money they didn't earn. They did nothing productive to earn it yet they want to keep it all.
Also the retail business isn't efficient. If people bought everything wholesale from warehouses, they'd pay let's say 30% less for everything. That'd give them a 43% higher standard of living. Those who now say " can I help you" would be producing more goods, not flogging them in retail outlets. So don't just single out the bitchy lurker Dawn. :p |
Well
I don't want to get into the details of our gov budget but it is kind of obvious than we (the public) can live without most of our gov workers.
Their best argument for keeping their jobs is that the govmnt provides jobs and if we cut them off, what would they do? I say let them keep their paycheck but keep them at home where they can't cause any more trouble. |
NAPHO
Don't cry about your birth. It could be worse U know. You could have been born green with a peg leg and named nicobie.
About u're rich people rant, I'm all for a sales tax on all goods and services. NO income tax. That way if you buy stuff you pay taxes. Don't/can't afford to buy, you pay no taxes. This ain't rocket science U know............ |

And it isn't that income tax is necessarily a bad thing, but the wording of the 16th Amendment sets no limits and concievably allows for the government go levy a 100% income tax if they wanted to. They already take about a third of my paycheck, while others give up more than half of theirs and still others pay nothing. But according to the IRS wages are not the only sources of income. Remember all those cars Oprah gave to her audience? They all had to pay income tax on those "free" cars. The Constitution allows any gift, trade, prize, etc. to be defined as income and that just goes too far. The 16th Amendment either needs to be reworded or repealed. Excises such as sales taxes are paid by every consumer in the U.S., whether they're legal taxable-income-earning citizens or not. And tariffs needn't be very large as long as our GDP continues to flourish. The reason politicians make such a big deal out of unemployment rates isn't because they really care whether people earn a living or not, it's because lower unemployment rates equal higher income tax revenues. But excises and tariffs depend on the overall health of the economy, not just one symptom. Abolishing income taxes in favor of the other two options would give the government a vested interest in keeping business strong and business would have incentive to keep jobs within our borders. Viola, the unemployment problem solves itself, while the government generates sufficient revenue and business booms. |
