best albums so far:
Sonic Youth-"Murray Street" The Streets-"Original Pirate Material" Best Tunes: Sugababes-"Freak like me" Shakedown-"At night" LCD Soundsystem-"Losing my edge" The Rapture-"House of jealous lovers" |
I rediscovered The Blue Nile this year if that counts, I reccomend "Tinseltown in the rain" to anybody here, it's one of those songs that's hard to stick a label on.
Also the new Coldplay album sounds ok. |

The latest Low "Trust" is decent. Amon Tobin "Out From Out Where" is good. Elvis Costello "When I Was Cruel" is great. |
Thievery Corporation - The Richest Man In Babylon
I think ramona might like the second track, Facing East.. reminds me of dead can dance. |

props to the new jurassic 5 album though |
LIke: (2002 releases)
Peter Murphy - Dust Peter Gabriel - Up David Sylvian - Camphor David Bowie - Heathen Bryan Ferry - Frantic The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Frou Frou - Details The Residents - Demons Dance Alone (nearly all really old guys) Hate: Not enough room here... |
i'm with ramona on frou frous’ details especially tracks hear me out, dumbing down of love and flicks (burned the whole thing plus extra stuff). 23 yo lead singer imogen heap (related to uriah?) is a bit of a cross between dolores o'riordan and björk but isn't a pain the ass yet so that's a plus. i'm getting into jai uttals' middle eastern blends and i'm always combing the trance-ambient bins for gems like the ibiza comps, dzihan kamien, funki porcini, a man called adam etc. thanks remy shand for nailing that spacey brand of smooth funk that seemed to exist only in a february 1973 parallel universe. for the night sweat sounds of ahbahnah koobah it’s gotta be beny more - try his Las Mulatas del Cha Cha Cha (Ole!) note: dance partner's a must + drink prodigious amounts of cap'n morgan/equivlent. wow, tinsletown in the rain – there’s a very cool flashback. got it on vinyl. so i've got 10s of thousands of files but only two ears. how do i fit them all in? :p

While it may stand out in a lackluster year, it is, imho, good but not that good. Many of the songs just seems to meander aimlessly for 6 or 7 minutes when they would have done well to end at 4. I have several friends who are also diehard Gabriel fans and they agree....one of them commented that it was almost as if Up was a soundtrack to some imaginary film.:uu: |

Attempted to d/l some of the Bryan Ferry stuff that Ramona mentioned....I found the what appeared to be all of the cd from the same user. The d/l was extraordinarily fast, but none of the songs play at all. Looks like a variation on the spoof. Dunno why these guys think this is effective against filesharing - it just makes me determined to find the songs:f: |
The Notwist - Neon Golden :tu: |
Stuff that rocks:
Bad Religion - Process of Belief Angry with a great sense of fun, and Graffin's voice gets better as it gets older. Musically their tightest album. Was leaked a few months early by #ego, but not officially released until Feb 2002 ;) Goldfinger - Open Your Eyes Wicked melodies. Fast, punk pop music. Weezer - Maladroit As good as all their other albums, and better than Pinkerton :tu: No Use for a Name - Hard Rock Bottom More fun than a bag of monkeys :p Stuff that sucks: Just about everything played on the radio here. |

Good singer/songwriter-type stuff:
Joseph Arthur--Redemption's Son Jeff Tweedy and Jim O'Rourke--Loose Fur Richard Buckner--Impasse |
