The lite version still works, the official one doesn't. It says the network no longer exists.

I just installed this program and my hard disk is always working to the max from the moment i open it, no matter if i download/upload something or not. Us there an option to stop this?

i haven't installed it yet so i'm guessing here infini but it's probably hashing your shares which is normal and has nothing to do with whether you're transfering anything. if that's what it's doing it'll stop soon, unless it has to hash an entire big c-drive then it will take forever. as with any p2p application it's important to make sure you're only sharing exactly what you want to share.

I read here: http://www.fslite.com/edonkey2000-lite/ that this version doesn't include banners and adware although they appear at the top right of the program.
