eDonkey: Problem or not?

Hi all,

I've been increasingly using eDonkey (35.16.59) with the DonkeyBot (V1.21) to download files.

Currently I'm donwloading a file and have gotten the following message in eDonkey (message window that also shows the server messages):

Corruption found in <file being downloaded> at <some number>

As far as I can tell, this message is trying to tell me that there were problems encountered in downloading chunks of the file. The <some number> indicates the chunk that shows the corruption.

Have any of you seen this message before? Are these corrupt chunks retransferred automatically or should I expect the file to be corrupt after completing the download?

Any info is greatly appreciated,
Stoepsel

Found this in the eDonkey forums...

After posting my initial post, I started looking around in the eDonkey forums and found this post:

Corruption found in "file" at XX
I am getting this message once in a while when d/loading. What does it mean? Does it mean that the file is damaged permanently? Or eDonkey will attempt to fix the problem somehow?

It means that there was a corruption found in the 9Mbyte chuck you just downloaded (or some before that it found later) and that it will attemp to redownload this.
Don't worry, the file will work.
It's quite normal.
Next time I'll search the eDonkey forums before raising a fuss. :)

I just had this happen an hour ago. The thing was corrupt and wouldn't finish. I just renamed it (to .mpg in this case) and it worked fine.

Yes, corruptions will be fixed automatically. It's happened to me on several occasions, the file comes out fine.

Once, however, there must have been a bad client or something, there was this one file what would always have a corrupy chunk, and try to re-download it every time, only to crap out again. This happened a dozen times or so (very annoying), until finally a clean chunk came through.

Like with most other eDonkey problems... give it some time and it will sort itself out.
