Sharing

I know I have been asking alot of questions LOL. I need to know some programs where I and friends, family can share on a private network such as WASTE where my friends and family and I can download the software and enter a password and we can share files on the private network. I am trying to use WASTE but it keeps saying invalid password when I am typing the correct password. So if any can tell me any good programs that are free where I can share with friends and family and they can do the same. Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

I still recommend WASTE. It is IMO the best available program for secure small group sharing.

The password is there just to save your key data securely from other people having possible direct access to your computer. If you use your own home computer to run WASTE, you can simply make a new profile and save it with an empty password - that way you will never have problems opening it.

Welcome to P2P-Zone.

Waste can be a bit of a process to set up. We went through the whole process a few months ago in this thread, and then some of us started a few secret networks. It's a long read but everything you need to know is there. Give it a chance, 'cause as far as I know it's the only program that fits your request. Take a look at Filetopia too. It's larger and more open than Waste so it might not be so easy to set up a private network, but I've never used it so I'm not sure.

As to your question, you have to put in the IP address of the person you want to connect to, and before you do that you need their public key and they need your public key. In the Private Key section of the Prefferences dialog you can export your public key so you can email it to the other person.

i was going to suggest checking out the http://www.str8dog.com/ forum but its gone....

i wonder where all those users are hanging now?

its a pity because it was one of the only places to check out what the waste user community was doing..

you are welcome to pm me on this forum if u want any help ...

i suggest making a waste network between 2 users on a lan first
if u can..
that seemed to help starting the new networks initially in a lot of cases
also someone must not have a firewall running...

This is a waste setup document. It has helped me in the past. I found it browsing forums and still use it when guiding new people onto a mesh.
