A question for WinMx users

Have any of you found, that when you go to log on to the servers, that it checks them, one at a time, for each it states "Resolving Host, Offline" once it runs thru them all, it then reads "Stopped".

This has been going on for a couple of days now:( Anyone else having this problem?

Please don't respond by saying how bad or crappy WinMx is, you're probably right, but I like it:)

Thanks

It was doing that to me I went to www.winmx.com and downloaded ver 3.3 Everything good now. I think its a forced upgrade. Better ver. anyhow.

Thanks guys for all of your help, I've been runnin' 2.6. (at version 3.2, I had been advised not to upgrade), now I guess I will have to.

Thank you Shani for pointing me to the other forum for the read, I joined:)

Thanks again guys, I'm off to upgrade:uu:

Winmx sucks

There, now nobody needs to wonder how I feel about it.

Hi Nookie :W: :D

Mowzer 11-09-02 11:56 PM

Dawn,

Why does "Winmx suck" ?

I would like to know why winmx has lead you to have an unsavory opinion regarding the file sharing experince it offers.

Ah.... No Stamina these Gals?

Them Ladies has no staying power, thats the problem!

Hello Dawn...:W:

Patience is what it needs, the old Spider attitude, try try try again, etc etc..

One bad experience does not make WinMx a BAD P2P.. The main problem cited by many is the horrendous queues...

Well folks the reason for the queues is:

1. the client is SO popular, has so many users
2. the users are the REAL problem, well the GREEDY ones are
3. Many users offer TOO FEW download slots
4. Many users have much sought after material
5. Many users are just GREEDY (see point 2)
6. Many users expect to download 2 or 3 complete albums at once
7. Too many users set no limits to the files a user can grab
8. (finally) Many users are put off by the large queues, either that or they queue uploads, then disconnect, leaving a dead LARGE queue, instead of cancelling their downloads when they give up.

Most of the problems are created by IGNORANCE ... But as always its the OTHER users fault, not WinMx, Napsterites users are of course excluded from this statement, they are PERFECT, aren't we all?

:RS: :RS: :RS: :RS: :RS: :RS: :RS: :BL:

Snark...

nanook 12-09-02 02:53 AM

snark, i am just old and set in my ways.
i actually hate upgrading anything, but everyone is so, "u just gotta!".
my winmx 2.6 is just so comfortable.
i liked it, initially, because it was the app closest to napster, imho, and was clear, unjumbled, and quite easy to use.
i imagine, sooner or later, they will find a way of forcing me to upgrade, even with the opennap servers, but until then..........2.6, it is.

 :ND: :att:

napho 12-09-02 03:27 AM

There are other programs for Opennaps if that's all you're using WinMX for. Rapigator(FileNavigator) has it's own network with about 30,000 users and 5 1/2 million files as well as Gnutella support.
AudioGnome is still around as well. It has it's own network too. That said, I don't use them much.

i think shes pretty pissed! :D ahh.. so am I actually.. too lazy to upgrade right now. Using FTP and audiognome.. FTP is actually not so bad since albums are organised and there are no queues.. oh.. to use audiogalaxy or napster again.

Every single time I've tried to get a movie from Winmx (and I've tried several times), I just sit there in an endless queue. And I've left it for hours, still the movie doesnt even start.

Of course, there are tons of people getting MY movies.

To me, Winmx has proven itself to be a place for me to go share my movies, and get nothing in return. And that sucks.

I believe WinMX will time out dead que entries.

BTW, has anyone noticed that the 'waiting time for upload' setting appears to have no effect? When a dead que entry has its turn to download, it will take 2 minutes to time out, regardless of what the actual setting is. Annoying...

May I state that when you are searching for a file, and the program finds them, and they get listed, that, as you probably know, at the far right of that window there is a column indicating the download status for each of the files listed, i.e. if there are already users queued and how many.
The trick is to click on the top of that column (I don't remember what it says there), so that the list of found files will get sorted according to number of users queued.
This means that you will immediately have at the top of your list those files with no queues at all and obviously you would click on those preferrably to those where you find 1, several or tens of users queued !
If you do this, you will *never* be in a queue !

nanook 12-09-02 03:12 PM

winmx is NOT really the place to get movies, although they r shared there.
it is mainly for mp3s.
there r special servers on winmx, especially designed for the movie trading buffs!
whilst browsing the server list, hopefully their name might clue one in, to whether or not they r movie traders....or right click to view the server messages.......which will mos def let u know whether or not they r......i know this, because they won't let u in, if u don't have movies to share.
so i delete these servers off my list.
cause i have none............56k....there really is no sense in me dling movies.:tu:
