Newsleecher finally does the tedious things itself. :AP:
|
Most excellent indeed :AP:
|

GO COLTS!!!! |
I love it. So simple, just start the download then forget it. Next time you look, its been repaired (if needed) and unzipped. Nice!
|
finally tried it out today.....WOOHOO!
:EA::tu::tu::EA: |
worked like a champ at first, now not at all. everything queues, nothing downloads, searches get no results. i'm connected, but nada - i'm gonna uninstall and reinstall next...

If you're using that search while running a 30 day trial that's one thing, if it's a cracked version, the author of NewsLeecher might own you. There are other readers that are similar, like http://www.altbinz.com/ It chokes on all the servers and connections I use, but might work well for you. It's free, so there's no programmer trying to frustrate you. |

The supersearch goes to the home site of the author, and if he sees that you have a hacked version, things happen. There's a program that opens NewsLeecher and lets you search using different engines in NL. It doesn't seem to work for the latest version of NL. http://s14.invisionfree.com/NewsSearcher/ PM me if you like with your NewsLeecher details, and I'll try to figure out what's going on. |
Did you get it figured out knifey? Feel free to use my genie if you need him. He knows just about everything about usenet. :W:

There are other versions that might work. Surely was for me when I was in that pinch.

Also, use this program and you might find some "protectors" in your registry, especially Armadillo, which is used by the NewsLeecher guy. http://www.sendspace.com/file/6qvrff |
help is on the way
follow the README instructions do you have a good uninstaller program? (aw heck....that's on it's way as well) :W: |

i tried that EVACleaner Napho, thanks.
how come it keeps finding 19 Armadillo keys even after i clear them? |
so, when i have the "approved" NL installed, can i go back and reinistall NS?

19!!!!!!!! It's still not too late to leave the country. http://siliconrealms.com/index.shtml Instead of checking off the main box, you could double click to see all the entries under there. A few can't be cleared by being check marked, and you have to double click them and they move to the right. |

thanks for the help, guys:W:
here's a question: you find an nzb file, you go to grab it, and the NL log says "403- no such article". can you pretty much assume that it's no longer hosted on a newsgroup and it's probably never coming back?n i mean, any point in keeping it queued? |
if you're using your isp's news server, article retention rate is probably only about 3 weeks. you might want to consider shelling out & signing up with a premium news server where the retention is at least 3 months.

Didn't you recently switch to DSL knifey? Around here, DSL doesn't have any news servers at all. That might be why you are getting the error. Or were you getting stuff via usenet before trying this version of newsleecher?
|
If anyone wants suggestions, this is the cheapest and good for the price---> speed limited for $4.95/month http://www.megabitz.net/ They seem to have a 2 day free trial and a cheap 1st month for their faster unlimited service too
This is really popular too http://www.newshosting.com/ And this http://www.usenetserver.com/ I don't know if you can get a trial for UNS, I think you have to ask Newshosting. |

your isp hosts the content to allow it's subscribers access. how good Bellsouth is i don't know.....Roadrunner is tolerable thanks to QuickPar. stop being so paranoid about safety ffs. they'll be going after Bittorrent long before Usenet. :) i used Usenetserver for over a year.....they have issues at times but i was too lazy to switch. they've been much better recently, increasing their retention and providing Encrypted UseNet Access if that'll make you feel better. you ought to check it out for a month....you'll never give it up. |

but UseNet speeds and the utility of progs like NewsLeecher make paying a few bucks per month pretty attractive - particularly if they offer additional anonymity. |
Your isp can theoretically keep track of everything you do, so if their servers are enough for you, you don't need a pay server for anonymity. All that is predicated on you NOT threatening the President btw.

I registered just to say how much this thread kicks ass. I haven’t updated since version 2.5 (which I paid for) because my subscription expired and they apparently don't deactivate the software unless you upgrade, which is cool, but I think I'm going to cough up the $30 bucks just for this feature.
|
i recently reinstalled this prog and now it no longer extracts/repairs automatically...works fine otherwise, but there must be a setting i'm missing . anybody else have to manually intitiate rextraction ?

Only for 001 type files. Are you sure your settings are ok, like checking off "auto unpause queued set files if needed". That'd be easy to forget about. |
