• 1. Download the program
  (initial release(add .zip tag to the file))

• 3. Install the program
  
  * 3.1 Start the installation file
  * 3.2 Press "I Agree"

  * 3.5 Then a new screen appears, move your mouse around in circles until "WASTE PROFILE setup.." appears
  * 3.6 Now fill out your profile
  o 3.6.1 Fill out the box after "Nickname" with your nickname
  o 3.6.2 Fill out the box after "Real name" with your anything else but your real name..
  o 3.6.3 In the box under "Connection speed" you find your internet connecting speed, don't fake it. It hurts your download more then your upload.
  o 3.6.4 Press "next"
  * 3.7 Press "Run key generator..."
  o 3.7.1 In the box after "Passphrase" you enter your SUPER-PRIVATE PASSWORD...
  
  remember to write this password down.... Don't ever forget it.
  o 3.7.2 In the box after "Passphrase again" you enter your SUPER-PRIVATE PASSWORD again.
  o 3.7.3 Press "Generate"
  o 3.7.4 Move your mouse around in circles until a small box appears
  o 3.7.5 Press "OK"
  o 3.7.6 Press "Next"
  * 3.8 If you don't know shit, then don't mess with "Download path"
  o 3.8.1 Press "Add..."
  o 3.8.2 Now browse your hard drive and locate the folder with your shares, now mark the folder, so the folder name turns blue.
  o 3.8.3 Press "OK"
  o 3.8.4 To enter more share folders, repeat 3.8.2 until you don't have anymore folders to share with the rest of us. Now go to 3.8.5
  o 3.8.5 Press "Run"
  
  
• 4. In the box titled "Waste" you press "File" and then "Preferences"
  
  * 4.1 Press "identity"
  o 4.1.1 In the box under "nickname" you enter your nickname.
  o 4.1.2 Press "update nickname"
  * 4.2 Press "Private Key"
  o 4.2.1 Press "Copy my public key to the clipboard"
  o 4.2.2 NOW it's going to be a bit tricky. Enter your mail program and open a "new mail" and click "Paste.." now you should have pasted your Waste Key into the mail.. Send that mail to who ever gave you the Waste program, or to someone you know inside the waste society.... in the case of this forum post it here or/and here:

  * 4.3 The person you have mailed your key to, now have to mail you his key.
  (get the list of keys at waste board (you can export all the keys there to a single file-wich you can save then right click and open in notepad)
  hint:you can copy the entire list of our keys and paste them in the "load key text box" it will tell you eg."(18)keys have been added correctly")
  
  o 4.3.1 Go to Prefrences->Public keys
  o 4.3.2 Press "Add..."
  o 4.3.3 In the white box in the bottom, you press in the middle with your right mouse button and click "Paste"
  o 4.3.4 Press "load key text"
  * If you're Internet Service Provider have provided you with 1 IP for your use only. Then go to 4.4.1 and if they haven't provided an IP for your use only, then go to 4.4.3
  * 4.4 Press "IP addresses"
  o 4.4.1 Click in the little white box placed before "Force incoming IP to"
  o 4.4.2 In the box after "Force incoming IP to" is where you enter your provided IP.
  (mostly for routers that use network address translation (NAT) )
  o 4.4.3 check route traffic
  and the other 2 check boxes under that
  
  *4.5 In waste prefrences>network>

  ALT+P = Opens the box where you are able to change your preference settings

if you have problems connecting try turning your firewall off for a little while

You can change your listen port if you want, but just make sure to tell everyone so they can change their connection settings.

zer0share is operating, and connecting members through its IP addresses. you can try this one: 63.231.72.155. (start waste | copy IP number |click view | network status | paste IP number in window | click lightning bolt.)

you may need to configure or temporarilly shut off your router/firewall until a connection is established.

Ok I cant connect to Mazer or any of the other IPs Ive had Multi and ONEMAN Connect to me and I can connect to myself . I have turned the fire wall off and reinstalled WASTE incase it was corrupted a real mystry and im connecting on the 'leet' port .I can connect to other WASTE meshes .

that was interesting. when i went to check your new public key it was all zeros, and it spread through the mesh anyway. so perhaps corrupt keys can propagate. something i would not have thought possible.

I'm running on a static, 142.179.181.13, I know some people were wondering.

MY old key turned into all zeros
 

Worked out what happened to my old key I was changing passwords while connected to the mesh and that in turn set my public key to all zeros, a possible bug?? and it also distributed that to all nodes then i got disconnted from the NET (dail up user) when I reconnected i couldnt connect to anyone of course I tried to the the same on another mesh to replicate it it did exactly the same thing all zeros the private key was ok it was the public key that corrupted itself .Ill tell sh4rd about it when he gets back from holiday.

think everyone will have got your key by now abm..i connected to you straight away when i put your new key in..

I entered in everyone's IP and public key that have posted here, but I still cannot connect.

I have set the network name to "zer0share". I have added the public keys. I have added over 10 IP addresses, which are continually trying to connect I am listening to port 1337.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I have even set my router to place this computer in a DMZ (exposing it to the internet from behind the firewall).

Any suggestions?

shortly after 5pm this afternoon (2100utc) this mesh was merged with a trading mesh from the university of east carolina.

it was not a hostile merging, but an accidental one caused by an inexperienced uec user.

after some effort by uec members we unmerged about 45 minutes later, and are now back to normal. we will continue monitoring the network over the next few days.

please check your keys and remove any that you don't recognize, especially those that came after "metachimp."

i'd like to thank the uec students for thier efforts in resolving this issue.

(1). I'd just like to thank ya'll for starting a respectable trading community. Zer0share is a phenomenal idea, and I got a lot of really good literature that I can't wait to read.

(2). I'd just like to apologize for merging ya'll with my other online 'dealings'. I put in other keys and IPs before I added yours, but I couldn't connect for some reason, so I just left them.

The problem came after I removed the network id from "zer0share" to blank, that the two communities merged. After less than 1 hour on WASTE, I made a mess of things.

Sorry again, and I will be more conscientious in the future.


For future reference, how can I alternate between zer0share and my school network without causing this problem?

i must admit it gave us a bit of a start this afternoon but don’t worry metachimp, we survived the excitement lol.

no need to alternate between meshes . you can run more than one at the same time and they remain separate from each other.

you’ll need to make up individual profiles for each mesh. to do that go to "file | preferences | profiles" and check "show profile manager on startup." then go to "profile manager | create" and follow the prompts. it can be a good idea to choose different names and ports for each separate mesh, as long as everyone does the same.

Everyone that uses the zer0share should post thier keys at the WASTE BOARD so if we have a merging situation we can just go to the WASTE board and upload our keys from there and also set the pending keys to prompt and not auto accept.

its optional for the mesh to have a networkname or not..

but if the mesh has one you need it to connect

check to see there is no space after it..

try fowarding port 1337 to your local network ip..

you will need to log in to the router
you will need to know the routers ip
(presumably 192.168.0.1)put that in a web browser to bring up the web interface for the router..find port forwarding/redirection
add 1337(tcp) and your ip on your local network...
dont know wireless routers at all..sorry if its something a bit different..

forwarding ports is fairly simple. i avoided doing it the right way for a while because i kept overlooking one digit in my internal ip. once i figured that out everythting else fell into place. if you have a linksys router i can help. the thing is tho you should still be able to connect even if you're not forwarding ports. it may (or may not) spread resource around to other users but i used waste for weeks without doing it.

just wondering if on the waste board if inbetween the keys or somewhere
prominent..have some thing like:

(and maybe a link to this thread?)

or something to that effect...because seems a few are joining from there not really aware of this..

no one can do anything if you choose to share songs and TV shows..ect
not like you will get the boot off the mesh for doing it..or anything

i could only see that its you that would be taking the
risk by doing it...

the more this idea evolves the more i like it..and if it can be a bit of a liason between the waste users and the waste developers..i am all for keeping it clean and above board ..so to spek :W:

some good additions to the prefrences

still the chat room dont show until you join it..but i am pretty used to that now

looking forward to the future releases...

found after doing this a few times now (keeping the old mesh's prefrences intact and upgrading the client) i have come apon a system i thought i would share..

for the sake of the example i will make your current waste directory c:\WASTE

before running the new waste installer
rename c:\WASTE to c:\WASTE1 or something

run the installer no need to make a serious key just skip forward till the installation is finished close the default waste ..you can delete the default.pr0-.pr4 it just made or keep it for a spare..

from your old dir( waste1 directory you renamed) copy your downloads folder to your new waste directory plus all your
.pr0-4 files for all your meshes..

then run waste as per usual..everything should be the same as when you used waste last but with the latest client..

doing it this way makes sure i have a backup of the old waste set up until everything is sweet on the new one..

it may well be that if you dont have your mesh named default in the profile manager..and install the new client straight in over the old will have exactly the same effect...if you do it this way please let me know..:W:

The manifest file is innocuous. It just describes in a computer-readable format the package/app that carries it.
