I don't think they make any difference with static and dynamic IP numbers.... the ISPs can identify customers with dynamic IP numbers from their logs as easily as static IP customers if the time of the alleged activity is given.

Yeah I guess you could do that but instead of worrying too much about RIAA's list, it is better to take sensible precautions in your present and future activities until the hostile situation is somehow resolved... avoid FastTrack and other big public networks, and if you go there, don't share any top-50 type RIAA stuff on them. And if you have kids who don't understand the dangers of the situation but insist on downloading some RIAA crap from Kazaa, just deny the use of the computer from them for a while.... easy, right? :CG: :BL:

Had quite a lil "discussion" with my teen not more than 3 weeks ago about this very thing TG........ Just happened to be doing some piddling on her machine and ran into the biggest pile of poo you ever wanted to see. Got to preaching again, and it's not like I hadn't been preaching for several months. Momma went ballistic - my girl went into hiding. We removed the vulnerable programs immediately. Kids are so hardheaded and they always think they know it all and think no harm will come their way...........how long she had it installed and using this stuff, i don't know. That's why I thought if any of us have rugrats laying around, it may be helpful to keep a little ip log.............just in case. Next time I'm gonna send her to THE DUNGEON for more severe discipline. :SP: :SP: |

my bet’s the targets will change on a regular basis in an attempt to keep traders off balance. after verifying the actual song file against a sonic fingerprint, the determination is made whether to issue a subpoena. while the riaa is most concerned about new product sales and will weigh their actions heavily in favor of punishing traders of new content they can and probably will issue writs for nearly every type of music, including world, classical etc. depending of course on input from member record companies, some of whom apparently want no part of this.

just off the top of my head i think sbc has around 2,500,000 subscribers for it's at home highspeed service. presumably a huge proportion of them file share, say 80%, or some 2 million, tho it's probably more. out of that pool they subpoenaed 176 subscribers. you don't need to understand statistics to know the odds are solidly with the traders, and overwhelmingly so.
